An AZ truck driver resume in Canada needs to lead with your licence class, clean abstract status and CVOR record. Carriers screen these before reading anything else. After that, equipment experience, routes, total kilometres and ELD systems by brand are what separate applications.

Why there's so much demand for AZ drivers

The Canadian Trucking Alliance estimates a shortage of more than 30,000 drivers nationally, and that number is growing as experienced drivers retire. That means strong negotiating position for qualified candidates — but it also means more applications to sort through, and carriers still screen carefully. A clean abstract and valid CVOR are non-negotiable.

Licences and certifications to put near the top

  • AZ Driver's Licence (Class 1) — Province — state "Clean Abstract"
  • CVOR Certificate (Commercial Vehicle Operator's Registration) — "Clean"
  • FAST Card (Free and Secure Trade) — if you do cross-border runs
  • Air Brake Endorsement (Z)
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) — if applicable
  • WHMIS 2015
  • Cargo Securement (NSC Standard 10)
  • Standard First Aid Level 1

The FAST Card matters a lot for Ontario-Quebec-US corridor carriers. If you have one, put it near the top — it opens you up to a higher-paying segment of the market.

What to include under experience

Driving record: Total kilometres driven (e.g., "5 million+ km over 8 years, zero preventable accidents"). Years of accident-free driving. Clean abstract and CVOR. Clean criminal background check.

Equipment experience: 53-foot dry van, refrigerated/reefer trailers, flatbed and step-deck, tanker (if applicable). Specify the trailer types you've actually operated.

Technology: ELD system brands matter — PeopleNet, KeepTruckin/Motive, Omnitracs. PC Miler or other route planning software. Canada-USA cross-border experience if relevant.
