Industrial Mechanic Resume Guide Canada — 433A Certificate
How to write a resume as a Journeyman Industrial Mechanic (433A) in Canada. What to include, which certifications to list, and how to stand out to employers in Ontario and Alberta.
A Millwright (433A) resume in Canada needs to do two things clearly: prove your certification and equipment experience, and show what you've actually accomplished on the floor. Employers hiring Industrial Mechanics aren't looking for generic trades language — they're screening for specific certifications, specific equipment types, and measurable maintenance outcomes.
What the hiring manager is actually scanning for
In Ontario and Alberta, Millwright postings typically screen hard for: 433A Certificate of Qualification, specific safety certs (WHMIS 2015, Working at Heights), PLC experience by brand, and evidence that you can reduce downtime rather than just maintain equipment.
The last point is more important than people realize. "Maintained production equipment" is what every applicant writes. "Reduced unplanned downtime by 40% through proactive PM implementation" is what gets you called back.
Certifications to list prominently
Put these near the top of your resume, not buried at the bottom:
- 433A Journeyman Certificate of Qualification — include the province
- WHMIS 2015
- Working at Heights — include expiry date
- Forklift Operator Certification (counterbalance and reach if applicable)
- First Aid / CPR Level C
- Confined Space Entry and Monitor
- Valid driver's licence class
If you have additional certs — rigging, crane operation, welding (CWB) — list them. In a competitive market, certifications are often the first filter.
Technical skills worth specifying
Don't just write "PLC troubleshooting." Write the brands:
- Allen Bradley RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000
- Siemens S7 / TIA Portal
Don't just write "hydraulics." Write the systems:
- Hydraulic cylinders, directional control valves, pneumatic actuators
- Precision laser alignment on gearboxes and motor couplings
Other skills worth being specific about: conveyor systems and gearboxes, CMMS software (SAP PM, Maximo), rigging and hoisting capacity, welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick), blueprint and schematic reading.
The more specific your skills list, the more keywords you match — and the more credible you sound to an experienced hiring manager.
Writing strong bullet points
Use this structure: action verb + what you did + scope or tool + measurable result.
Compare:
- Weak: *Maintained industrial equipment and performed repairs.*
- Strong: *Maintained 150+ pieces of industrial equipment across 3 automotive production lines, reducing unplanned downtime by 40% through proactive preventive maintenance scheduling.*
More examples that work:
- *Troubleshot Allen Bradley RSLogix 5000 PLC systems, resolving control faults with average response time under 2 hours.*
- *Rebuilt hydraulic cylinders, directional control valves and pneumatic actuators, extending equipment lifecycle by 18 months on average.*
- *Trained and mentored 3 apprentice mechanics on LOTO procedures and safe work practices.*

Before you submit
Check that your resume includes: your 433A certification (with province), all safety training, the specific PLC brands and equipment types you've worked on, at least one bullet with a measurable maintenance or downtime outcome, and any apprentice mentoring experience. These are the items that determine whether you get a call. Build your Millwright resume or check your ATS score against the posting before you apply.
