A security guard resume in Canada needs to show your provincial licence number, First Aid / CPR status, and use-of-force certifications before anything else. Contract security companies run licensing verifications before they read work history — an unlicensed or expired candidate does not get processed. After licensing, what makes your application stand out is specific post types, incident reporting experience, and any supervisor or loss prevention experience.

Provincial licensing — the first requirement

Security work in Canada is provincially regulated. You must hold a valid licence for the province where you're applying.

Put your licence number in the header: *Security Guard Licence — Ontario #[Licence Number] — Valid until [Date]*

If your licence is expired, renew it before applying. Expired licensing is an automatic screen-out at most agencies.

Certifications to list prominently

  • Security Guard Licence — with province and licence number
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Level C — with expiry date
  • Use of Force (UoF) — with training provider and date
  • WHMIS 2015
  • Vulnerable Sector Check / Criminal Record Check — note if current (within 6 months)
  • Working at Heights — if applicable
  • OC Spray authorization — if applicable and legal in your province
  • Handcuff training — if applicable and authorized

CCTV and access control system experience:

  • Genetec
  • Lenel / Lenel S2
  • Bosch Video Management
  • Axis Camera systems
  • C-Cure 9000 / Software House
  • Honeywell Pro-Watch

Name the platforms. "Familiar with CCTV systems" is generic. "Operated Genetec Security Center across 240-camera site" is specific.

Security resume bullets — what matters

Weak: *Monitored premises and handled security duties.*

Strong: *Provided static security coverage for a 1,200-employee corporate headquarters in Toronto, conducting 4 perimeter patrols per shift, operating a 180-camera Genetec CCTV system, and completing incident reports in accordance with client SOP.*

More useful bullets:

  • *Responded to 3–5 incidents per shift at a 24/7 retail environment including shoplifting, medical emergencies, and unauthorized access — completed all reports using Incident IQ software within 2 hours of each event.*
  • *Supervised a team of 4 part-time guards at a construction site — assigned posts, conducted shift briefings, and submitted daily activity reports to the site manager.*
  • *Conducted executive protection escort for senior management at a downtown financial institution — screened all visitors, managed access control, and maintained a clean 18-month incident-free record.*

Before you apply

Your security resume must show: provincial licence number and expiry, First Aid / CPR with expiry, use of force training, incident reporting experience, post types (retail, corporate, events, construction, healthcare), and any supervisory experience. Build your security guard resume and run the ATS checker against the posting — many contract security postings require specific certifications that must match exactly.
