WelderCWB

A welder resume in Canada needs to lead with your CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) certification level and the specific welding processes you're qualified in — employers filter on this before reading anything else. Generic "experienced welder" language doesn't pass ATS screening or a shop foreman's first scan.

Certifications to list first

  • CWB certification — specify the level (e.g., CWB W47.1) and process (SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW)
  • Red Seal Welder certification, if held — this lets you work across provinces without requalifying
  • CSA W47.1 or B51 certification for pressure welding, if applicable
  • Any ticket-specific endorsements: pipeline (CSA Z662), structural steel, aluminum, stainless

Include certificate numbers and expiry dates where you have them — employers verify these before an interview is booked.

Be specific about process and material

Don't just write "certified welder." Specify:

  • Processes: SMAW (stick), GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), FCAW (flux-core)
  • Materials: carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, exotic alloys
  • Positions qualified: flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead (1G–6G / 1F–6F)
  • Thickness ranges and pipe diameters you've worked with, for pipeline and pressure vessel work
  • Blueprint and welding symbol reading (AWS/CSA symbols)

Salary in Canada 2026

ProvinceApprenticeCertified/JourneymanPipeline/Structural Senior
Alberta$24–$34/hr$38–$54/hr$55–$75/hr
Ontario$22–$32/hr$34–$48/hr$48–$65/hr
BC$23–$33/hr$36–$50/hr$50–$68/hr

Pipeline and shutdown/turnaround welding pay significantly above shop rates but is often camp-based or travel work — note your willingness to travel or work camp rotations if applicable.

Work experience bullets that get shortlisted

  • *Performed GMAW and FCAW welding on structural steel components for a 40,000 sq ft industrial fabrication project, maintaining zero rework rate over 8 months*
  • *Certified in CWB W47.1, completed pipeline welds on 12" and 16" diameter carbon steel pipe to CSA Z662 standard*
  • *Read and executed welds per blueprint and WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) documentation on a 6-person fabrication team*

Before you apply

Your welder resume must show: CWB certification level and process qualifications, Red Seal status if held, specific materials and positions welded, safety tickets (WHMIS, H2S Alive, fall protection for structural work), and any camp or travel availability. Build your welder resume and run the ATS checker against the posting before you apply. Or start from our Welder Resume Template.

Frequently Asked Questions

What certification should be on a welder resume in Canada?
Your CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) certification level and process (e.g. CWB W47.1, SMAW/GMAW/GTAW), plus Red Seal status if you hold it. List certificate numbers and expiry dates — employers verify these before booking an interview.
What's the average welder salary in Canada?
Certified welders earn roughly $34–$54/hour depending on province, with pipeline and structural senior welders earning $48–$75/hour. Alberta and pipeline/turnaround work generally pay above shop rates.
Does Red Seal certification matter for welders?
Yes — Red Seal lets you work across provinces without requalifying, and many employers in labour-shortage regions actively prefer Red Seal candidates over provincially-certified-only welders.
